If you have recently joined the ranks of criminal defense lawyers in Boston, you would be excited about the career you have before you. After all, criminal defense is highly popular because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up getting you cases that you would never have dreamed of getting before. Now, while you are understandably excited about where things could potentially end up going at any point in the future, another thing that you should bear in mind is that there are a few tips that you might want to implement.
The truth of the situation is that when you are working in criminal defense you are invariably going to end up coming across people that you might not feel like defending. You might come across people that would seem absolutely unsavory, to the point where they might just make you feel uncomfortable in a lot of different ways. It is understandable that you might feel uncertain about whether or not you should defend these people, but the thing is that as a lawyer your job isn’t to judge anyone based on your own moral compass.
What you need to do is emotionally remove yourself from the case. You need to look at it as a job and nothing else, and while many people might tell you otherwise there is pretty much nothing that can be gained from getting emotionally involved in any way, shape or form. A good number of people out there end up becoming terrible defense lawyers due to the reason that they are unable to take their own feelings out of the equation which leads to them doing a pretty terrible job.
